Liminality 1,2,3

Here, the toddler scurries
from froth back
forth crabwise through
seagulls, swinging a red toy
bucket to his mother
while she is a
sculpture, fixed like
Buddha formed from

There, sunscreened grandparents
pour melodious Czech syllables
over muffled squeals rolled, royal
as Cleopatra, within a twitching
purple towel

Everywhere, in ponderous
luminescence, the pregnant
woman bears with shoreline surge
steady as the voyaging QEII,
even as her belly’s gleam,
kaleidoscoping, round and
round and round
and round, refracts
this liminal view
